Dirt Tours with The Front

2009 Dirt Tours season has come to a close.

Yes, its that time of year again...

In light of the recent winter weather and the quickly approaching daylight savings time change it has been decided that the Dirt Tours will be put on hold again until next spring.
Thanks to everyone that came out to run with us this year!

Please check back for future announcements on the status of Dirt Tours as spring 2010 approaches.

We hope to see you all again on the trails next year! Have a great winter!

Mueller Park trail

Directions:

Head North on I-15. Exit at 2600 S in Bountiful. Turn right onto 2600 S. After about a mile, 2600 S curves to the left and becomes Orchard Drive. Stay on Orchard Drive until 1800 S. Turn right on 1800 S. Follow 1800 S all the way to Mueller Park. Park just outside the fee gate. There is a fee for going into the park, but there is no fee for just using the trail. Additional parking is available back down on 1800 S.

Run starts at 5:00pm

Note: Nate may not show up to the run tomorrow as he currently is experiencing a very bad cold. If he does not show up by 5pm, anybody present should just get on with the dirt tour without him. Thanks for your understanding!

City Creek canyon

Directions:From South Temple turn north on to I Street (700 E) heading up into the Aves. Follow I street until you get to the stop sign at 11th avenue. Turn left (west) at the sign and follow 11th avenue west until you get to a fork in the road overlooking City Creek canyon. Head right (northeast) at the fork down into City Creek. Take your first right (just before the road starts to curve back around) and follow the road a short distance up the canyon to the parking area just before the gate. Park.

Meet at 5:00pm

Mount Vancott from Red Butte.

From Foothill Dr. turn east onto Wakara Way. Follow Wakara way until you get to a four way stop. Turn left (north) at the intersection and follow the road through 2 more stop signs as it curves it way east again past the UofU dorms and follow the road as it makes it way up into Red Butte Canyon. A couple hundred feet up the canyon there will be a gate that blocks you from driving further up, park in the area just before the gate.

City Creek canyon

Directions:

From South Temple turn north on to I Street (700 E) heading up into the Aves. Follow I street until you get to the stop sign at 11th avenue. Turn left (west) at the sign and follow 11th avenue west until you get to a fork in the road overlooking City Creek canyon. Head right (northeast) at the fork down into City Creek. Take your first right (just before the road starts to curve back around) and follow the road a short distance up the canyon to the parking area just before the gate. Park.

Meet at 6:00pm

Red Butte canyon!

Directions:

From Foothill Dr. turn east onto Wakara Way. Follow Wakara way until you get to a four way stop. Turn left (north) at the intersection and follow the road through 2 more stop signs as it curves it way east again past the UofU dorms. Park in the lot on the right side (south) of the road just before the entrance of Red Butte canyon. Parking is free in this lot after 6:00pm.

Meeting place for Thursday 9/10:

Morris Meadow

Directions:

From South Temple, turn north on to I street and follow it as it makes its way straight up into the aves. After the four way stop on 11th ave, continue heading straight north following I street as it curves up west and then back east. Take a left at N Hilltop Rd (just past a church) and park in front of the gate in the dirt parking area. Meet here at 6:30 pm.

Millcreek canyon.

Burch Hollow trail head.

Directions: Take I-215 east bound to Wasatch Blvd. (3300, 3900, 4500 S. exits)Head over to 3800 S and turn heading east up into Millcreek canyon. Follow the road past the fee station as it winds its way up the canyon. The Burch Hollow trail head will be on the north side of the road about 4 miles up Millcreek canyon.

Run starts at 7pm.

Immigration Canyon

Directions:

From Foothill (2100 E) turn east on to Sunnyside Ave, (800 S). Follow Sunnyside east a little ways up towards the zoo and immigration canyon. Just past the zoo you will see on the north side of the road a small dirt parking lot area for the Bonneville shoreline trail. Park here.

Millcreek Canyon

Burch Hollow trail head.

Directions: Take I-215 east bound to Wasatch Blvd. (3300, 3900, 4500 S. exits)Head over to 3800 S and turn heading east up into Millcreek canyon. Follow the road as it winds its way up the canyon. The Burch Hollow trail head will be on the north side of the road about 4 miles up Mill Creek canyon.

Run starts at 7pm.

Take 700 E northbound towards the "Avenues" part of SLC. When you reach South Temple, make a left and then an immediate right again onto I street heading up north into the Avenues.
Follow I street until you get to 11th Ave and make a left hand turn(heading west). Follow 11th Ave west until you get to a point where the road forks and take the right fork down (north) into City Creek canyon. Take your first right hand turn (where the main road starts to curve back south). Follow that road until it runs into the City Creek Canyon parking lot area.

Run starts at 7pm.

Red Butte Canyon

Directions:

From Foothill Blvd, turn onto Wakara Way (about 600 S.) and head east
until you run into a stop sign. Make a left at the sign on to Chipeta
Way and follow the road through 2 stop signs as it makes its way up
east up into Red Butte Canyon. Just a short ways into the canyon there is a gate that blocks the road, park in the parking area in front of the gate.

Run starts at 7pm.

Directions: Take I-215 east bound to Wasatch Blvd. (3300, 3900, 4500 S. exits)Head over to 3800 S and turn heading east up into Millcreek canyon. Follow the road a ways up the canyon. Eventually you will run into the Church Fork parking area on your left. Pull off left into the dirt parking area next to the entrance gate & trail head.

Hey Runners,

Thanks for checking out the new Dirt Tours Blog. We'll be posting weekly run locations and directions here from now on.

This will also be a place where we'll post pics and ramble about rad trail runs. Feel free to comment on posts to give us feedback and share your trail experiences.
